Here is one of the previous Recent Writings. It is about Clipper Ships. Enjoy!

"Clipper Ships"

By Taylor Johnson

Watch a clipper ship speed in the water and you’ll see a rapid torpedo! What are clipper ships? Where did they come from? When were they invented? What do they do? Unravel these questions by simply discovering the true identity of the clipper ship. Clipper ships are very speedy vessels that were invented in America in the mid-1800’s. To be classified as a clipper, a ship needed a very skinny hull (or body). Clipper ships were used to carry tea, wool, opium, gold, and passengers around the Atlantic and Cape Horn during the gold rush days. The name “Clipper” came from the way the ships “clipped off” the miles. A ship called the Rainbow was the first real clipper ship. Mr. Donald McKay built lots of clipper ships, including the Flying Cloud, Lightning, and the Great Republic. Fast clipper ship voyages included 12-day trips across the Atlantic Ocean. So beware! Next time you look at ships, think of these great ships that were once a great help.
